A silent, dark world
An illness when she was a baby left Helen unable to see or hear. At first it was very hard for her to understand the world around her.
Teacher Anne Sullivan
Her patient teacher, Anne Sullivan, spelled words into Helen's hand. The day Helen understood that βwaterβ had a name, a whole new world opened up to her!
Helping others
Helen went to college, wrote books, and travelled the world speaking up for people with disabilities. She proved there is almost nothing you can't learn.
βAlone we can do so little; together we can do so much.β β Helen Keller
Why we remember Helen
Helen Keller teaches us never to give up, no matter how hard things seem. Her never-quit spirit is like A.P.J. Abdul Kalam's: keep learning and keep going.
