A brave choice on the bus

One evening Rosa was tired after a long day at work. When she was told to give up her seat, she calmly said no. She was arrested β€” but her courage lit a spark that could not be put out.

The bus boycott

To show the rules were unfair, people stopped riding the buses and walked instead β€” for over a year! Their peaceful protest worked, and the unfair law was finally changed.

The mother of freedom

People call Rosa Parks β€œthe mother of the freedom movement.” She showed that one calm, brave person can help change a whole country.

β€œYou must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right.” β€” Rosa Parks

Why we remember Rosa

Rosa Parks teaches us that standing up for what's right β€” even by sitting down β€” can make a big difference. Like Mahatma Gandhi, she believed in peaceful, gentle change.
